Hi I am new to boating!! My Wife is about to retire and I am already !! I have owned 14-16’ aluminum fishing boats never a fibreglass boat? I saw this boat and it caught my eye!! It’s a sweet looking boat blue & white ! Just need an opinion/s on if this is a good deal and a good boat?
20ft Thunder Craft Fierro 200 with the 350 mercury v8/5.7 alpha drive and tandem trailer.
Well maintained boat and trailer.
Boat features include:
Thru hull exhaust with silent choice
New Bimini and tonneau cover. Also comes with full camper top.
Seats in great condition.
Stored indoors and out of water.
Trailer service is all up to date.
The guy wants $12,500 or B/O ? First is this boat look in good condition it does to me? Also is the price fair or what should I offfer if need be lower? Thank You all in advance for the advice: Big Mike

Have you looked at this buyer’s checklist?

It’s all about condition, especially the stuff that’s not immediately obvious. Do you know what year the boat was made?

being the boat is a 1989, I would definatly consider it a project boat.

the price is a bit high, however Covid pushed the prices of all boats high the past year. I sold my 2002 SeaRay 190 for that $12.5k back in 2011

I would look the boat over with a fine tooth come. just looking at the vinyl in the cockpit (the bolster by the controls) that piece alone had rotten substrate (the wood normally used). hence the puckering on the top edge of the bolster, specifically around the last mounting screw (under the white snap cover)

specifically get your head down in the bilge area, look under there for signs of rot and mildew.

the carpet looks like it has been replaced. try to look under the carpet. if you see wood - walk away

if the floor is soft - walk away

if the upholstery stitches are pulling and the vinyl isnt soft. it may need upholstery. estimate about $3k for getting it done, about $1500 if you do it yourself

look at the edges where the new thru-hull goes thru the transom. is that exposed wood? should have been at least coated with resin and gel.

This is a 20 foot boat with a Merc 350, Corsa convertible exhaust, and go-fast style trim tabs. Most of that would be aftermarket. This looks like a kid taking an old Plymouth Volare and trying to convert it into a muscle car.

I agree. Walk away. Used boats hit the market everyday.
