Hi

I have a 2007 115 hp evinrude etec. It has only about 120 hrs but was bought in 2006 and is about 10 months beyond the 3yr warranty : (

It's been running rough and my mechanic looked at it and says although the fuel looks very good (no water) and fuel filter looks good, the fuel injector on cylinder #3 is not working well at all.

He says he's been looking for a way to clean injectors but has not yet found an approach (we are near Boston MA)

So, he says the injector has to be replaced. It's $395 for part, $200 for labor and $100 for pulling boat to work on dry land.

Just wondering if anyone has had this issue or knows of a way to clean injectors ?

Thanks !

Yes, they can be cleaned. Take it to an E-rude dealer and they can send them to the cleaning place.

E-TEC injectors are a welded up assembly and cannot be taken all the way apart to be cleaned or serviced.

The aluminum housing can be removed to access the fine screens that can be cleaned off if needed, but you can't go any farther than that unfortunately. Be sure to install a new seal kit if they are taken apart like that.

Some people swear by fuel injector additive in the gasoline. You may want to try that first to see if it unclogs the restriction. They'll sometimes do a high concentration in a small tank (check online, something like 1 can per gallon of gas) to clean the fuel injectors. Seafoam, Techron, Berryman's are some candidates (please do your own research on your specific engine).

good luck, keep us posted.
