Hi all, I recently purchased a 1983 mercury 18hp outboard. I would rather not drill holes in my transom so I'm just using the screw clamps for the time being. The only problem is the when the motor is completely seated on the transom, the cavitation plate is lower than the bottom of the boat.Any answers are appreciated.

Are you saying the motor is too low? It does not look overly low to me. You can use a piece of wood under the transom clamp to prop it up if need be.
