So the big Twinkie hunt is on down south after the closing of Hostesses doors.

So here is a little something I borrowed from another site, it may give some hope.

According to CTV News, the rights to Hostess brands in Canada are held by Montreal-based Saputo Inc., though the Twinkie is not currently on their roster of snacks. George Weston Ltd. owns the rights to Wonder Bread. In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Lionel Ettedgui, president of the bakery division at Saputo declined to say whether they would bring on some or all of the US snack cakes into their line-up. Hostess has announced that they intend to sell their assets, including the US brand rights for Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ho Ho?s, Sno Balls, and Wonder Bread, to the highest bidder.

Toronto Standard's continued investigation into the Twinkie Crisis has revealed some information that is in conflict with media reports. A 300g box of Twinkies purchased at Loblaws (Queen and Portland location) has revealed that, contrary to other reports, the golden cakes certainly look like they are part of Saputo's Hostess snack cakes lineup. The Saputo label is clearly marked on the side of the box. Attempts to reach Saputo for comment were unsuccessful. A spokesperson said there was no one at the Montreal office today to comment or answer our questions about where Twinkies made for Canadian consumption are produced or why other reports say that Twinkies are not part of the Saputo Hostess lineup. Canadians consumers will have to wait until Monday for reassurance that they will still be able to buy these beloved treats in our country.

I was reading in the Globe & Mail that Saputo's bakery division is Vachon Inc. which owns the rights to Hostess in Canada. They are the ones that produce twinkies in Canada.

Good info. It just proves what I have been saying all along, Twinkies and Ho Hos are NOT going to disappear. And anyone who is buying them on EBay at inflated prices is a moron.

Even if they go bankrupt the brand has value and will be sold someone else who will presumably start making them.

Oh great. With the Canadians making them, they'll probably have mayonnaise on them.

This is kinda funny-

Canadian Candy is Better | Challies Dot Com

But I think he missed the Hawkins Cheezies though?
That is pretty funny ... Challies can be a real crackup.

I didn't realize "turtles" were a gift from our Northern Neighbors. I might need to send you a box of Goo-Goo Clusters as a thank you.

There was a story about a possible purchase for hostess outta' Mexico earlier this weekend too, but I can't find it now.

Re: Possible help from the north to our neighbours south

I have not had a Twinkie in close to 15 years. The day they made the announcement about closing down I stopped by a gas station to fill up with gas. I saw a lady who must have weighed close to 350 pounds walk from her house just down the street with a grocery cart and an oxygen container. She went inside the store and loaded up her cart with 4 cases of beer, 4 cartons of cigarettes and every single Hostess product left on the shelf. As I left to go to work she was heading across the street to another gas station to buy out their supply as well. She was sucking on her oxygen mask smoking a cigarette and eating a Twinkie as she crossed the street. I managed to find one Twinkie at the back of a lower shelf that she could not see or reach and bought it just for the heck of it. I have no idea how long it sat there but when I checked the expiration date it said best by November 2025. I have MRE, and other emergency food supplies that will expire before that. I didn't check what the ingredients are, but I imagine it basically works out to around 50% preservatives, 24% fat 24% sugar, and 2% other ingredients. I told my parents about the purchase and they asked me to wait and split it three ways with them since they have not had a twinkie in years as well. There are other brands out there that are just as good or better, but there is something special about the original.

More likely to have gravy on them like the fries.

Yeah, I run into "mayo on everything" way more in the States than at home.
And someone suggested "Canadians and gravy on fries"?
Salt and vinegar, folks....salt and vinegar.

One of the things I have to remember to pack on a roadie to the US is vinegar. Get south of Northern PA and restaurants look at you like you have two heads if you ask for vinegar for your fries.
Ketchup on everything :eek::facepalm: :)

Down in SC if you go to places that serve good fresh cut fries (usually small independent restaurants with a bar) they will have vinegar for the fries. Most places have frozen fries, and I can't imagine them tasting very good with vinegar.
