possible bent prop shaft question

Looking at the props on a boat I bought it seems as if the prop shafts on the duo props may be bent. I will not know for sure until i put a dial indicator on them but its a good possibility since it was run aground which I knew when I bought the boat. If they are indeed bent, can duo prop shafts be straightened or do you have to replace the whole lower unit?

Thanks in agvance for the replies.

Lower unit is the DP-SM. $2000? Is that to repair the bent shaft or what? I know you can't buy these lower units that cheap.

So I guess that means they can't be straightened?
I would really doubt it. It would be one thing if it was a single prop but with a duo prop, one shaft sits inside the other. You would never be able to get the seal working. Does your drive leak water right now?

It's hasn't been in the water since it was damaged but I do have lower unit oil leaking out while sitting on the trailer

oil leaking out = water leaking in
It's your boat? you already bought it?
Take the out drive apart and see what's wrong.
The gears & shafts in a lower unit can get expensive fast.
If it were mine I would go through the whole out drive, you never know
how far "up" the damage went.

Yes, its paid for already. if it cost too much I may just go ahead and replace both lower units and be done with it if the parts get too high. Both of them are leaking oil so both lower units are damaged.

I don't know where you stand with the paper work of the sale, however, there is a good posibility that the repair could have gone through the owners insurance.
