Position of a gear on an old Minn Kota Turbo Pro 812 Bow Mounted Motor

I recently opened the black plastic gear compartment on my Minn Kota Turbo Pro 812 motor and a small teardrop shaped piece(circled in red) slid off one of the metal rods. I just need to know which rod its supposed to go on and in what position. I think it goes onto rod A. A photo of the lid is also attached to show how it holds everything together. Thanks

What exactly was the purpose in taking it apart in the first place?

Can't tell from those pictures, but is that part the pointer? If so then it will go on the shaft that mimics the motor position. JMHO!
