Re: portable air conditioner 250 Crownline

I've purchased a 250 Crownline CCR and would like a cheap way to air condition it. Has any one ever tried the portable air conditioner like this?

I don't want to use the hatch one's I've found online or install one of the $1400 permanent units. Does anyone have any experience with these units?

Justin

Justin, Thanks, I've been looking for something like that.
Never would of thought to look at Walmart for it.

I would find one to try if you've never ran one of those before. They are loud. The motor, fan and compressor are all in the space to be cooled (unlike a window unit which is external to the area to be cooled). All those things create heat so you are fighting an uphill battle with cooling. And they are pretty large, about the size of a small fridge. So they will cool but they are not very effecient at it.

It blows air out, and make-up air enters the space from outside through whatever openings there are; no air is recirculated. This reduces the efficiency. But the cabin volume isn't that large so it would probably work okay most of the time.

Those hatch units work OK but I thought it was waaaaay too hard to put it on/ take it off every time we wanted to use the boat. Sold the stupid thing after 1 summer.
And yes, it was noisey- usually right where you're sleeping.
