Re: pop-it valve

its on the exhaust cover low on the stbd side held on by two 10mm headed bolts, the hose goes from the valve housing fwd and down to the powerhead adapter. looks like a mini t-stat housing. also must be there in good working order or you will complain it will idle 5 min and overheat.

Yamaha 1991 200 SWII

Should you replace the grommet only, or the spring as well.

Will a leak cause overheating at max RPM?

I can run all day at 3900, but open up to 4400 or more and it overheats(?)/ depowers in 10 minutes.

I have new impeller with housing, tstats, strong pee, runs great otherwise.

kavika.
nope
your issue sounds like a head gasket leaking or scale build up inside the water passages.
sounds like its time to remove the water covers, cyl heads and have a scraping party.
happens a lot.
but before I got to jiggy I would remove and test the temp switches in a pan of water with a candy thermometer and a multimeter. could be a defective temp switch.
