Pop!!!! Boat was Gear now won't go into gear

I have a 94 crown line 225ccr 5.7 with a bravo1, I was boating over the forth weekend and was pulling a tuber was getting ready to plane out had the throttle down when I had a pop/snap from the rear of the boat and lost forward and boat was still revving not sure if the pop was the gears sliding back into neutral while under throttle? Turned it off and was towed in. When I got home pulled the outdrive and I can only get it in and out of gear when spinning the drive shaft and takes quite a bit of effort to do so but I can get it in forward and reverse. Detached the shift cable and seems fine, shifts freely when the outdrives off. No metallic in the gear lube or water, any suggestions?

The bravo has to have the driveshaft spinning in order to be shifted. The pop was most likely the drive coming out of gear. The real question is, was the shift cable adjustment incorrect, did the shift cable break or become loose with excessive free play, and is the drive now worn so that it will pop out under load. If the shift cable is questionable at all I would toss it, new ones are not that expensive. Make sure the adjustment is correct and reinstall the drive and give it a shot.

I already bought a new lower shift cable, when I pulled the cable out everything was fine no bends or anything reattched everything to spec and tried starting it again and still could not get it to go in forward or reverse while to boat was on. The only way I could get it to shift was if the boat was off and spun the prop in the direction of the gear I was looking for and it would go into gear then.

What's the difference what caused his problem. You have an OMC King Cobra, and he has a Mercruiser Bravo. Two completely different drives and manufacturers. :facepalm:

Well I haven't taken it in but I believe its the engine coupler that went that requires the engine to be pulled and aligned once reinstalled

Understand it's two different drives, I'm looking for any information that will help me determine my issue ! Sorry for asking a question! I'll stick to my thread and see what comes up there i was told to look at this one maybe there was something here cause its the exact same thing that happen to me !
