Re: Pontoon????

There are lots of toons on Michigan, you just have to be careful when you go out btu it is no different than any other boat.

Obviously bigger is better, a 16'er might be a little scary but a 22-25 you should be fine weather permitting.

I take my 21' toon out on lake Ontario all the time. You can't do it went the waves are 4 feet, but I wouldn't go out there with my 20' Sea Ray either.

Re: Pontoon????

You have to be careful. I actually know a guy who took his 20' pontoon out on Saginaw Bay in lake Huron and the combination of wind and waves (mostly wind) actually flipped his pontoon! If it were dead calm, and on an eveing sunset cruise, maybe....but I would never take a pontoon on any of the great lakes. In my 17' runabout which can handle waves pretty good, if the weather changes quick (which it does out on the big lakes) it can get pretty scary. I would never want to be in that situation in a pontoon.

I agree with Petro, you need a real boat if you'll be mostly on the Great Lakes.

I've taken our Bennington tritoon out on Lake Michigan in 2-4 footers and I felt it did quite well. It's no Boston Whaler though.;)
