Pontoon trailer rear bumpers, and more.

I recently purchased a used trailer for my 24' pontoon. I don't know if it is a homemade one or not. I have found no vin on it and the trailer axles are after-market so I am thinking has at least been remodeled. The iron rails that the boat sits on do not have the rear round bumpers to keep the rail from hitting the pontoon when backing under the pontoon boat. The previous owner also put 5/4" treated deck boards on the top of the rails and used rectangular bolts to attach them to the rails. I don't understand the purpose of those so I am thinking about removing them especially because the top piece of the bolt sticks up above the wood. There doesn't appear to be a front stop unless it is the two pieces of metal on the front end of the rails. I am used to seeing square metal stops that are about a foot or so back from the front of the top rail. The other curious thing is that the top rails are straight all the way back so when you lower the rail to back under the boat it rests on the tires before it is fully down. I am only using this trailer to put the boat in and take it out at our cabin. I will leave the boat on the trailer through the winter parked in the yard. It will probably not ever go down the road. I am looking for the round rubber bumpers to put on the rear of the top rail to protect the pontoon logs. I can't seem to find them anywhere. Any other advice or thoughts are welcome.

That is a cool trailer. You can launch your boat in pretty shallow water. I need 3 feet to get mine off. First question is...when you back under, and winch the rails up, I'm guessing that they actually contact the bottom of your deck...Leaving the toons hanging outside of the wheels. If i am correct, then those don't ever actually have anything sliding on them, hence no rollers. Maybe just change out the bolts...or do whatever you need to do to get them flush with the wood, and cover the wood with carpet, or maybe a rubber mat. Just a thought.

the pontoon wont move on the trailer unless you take a corner fast and tip it over.
