Hi guys,

I'm going to look at this Pontoon later today.

1996 Weeres 24'
90 HP '01 johnson

I want to make sure the motor is correct for the boat since it isn't original.

Where should the cavitation plate be relative to the tubes for best performance?
I figure it should be a long shaft motor, no?

Do you think this is enough motor to get off a big lake if winds where to change? How about going up a river?

[B]Only way to know for sure is to water test it, but should be fine.

Can't tell you precisely where the anti-ventilation plate should be relative to the toons, but yes it should be a long shaft and most likely is.

Absolutely.

24 footer with a 90 is a match made in heaven. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Do your due diligence on the engine.

On water test is best.

COMPRESSION test for sure.

The 90 will perform fine IF it is propped right. The engine needs to be able to turn 5500 RPM with an average load. If it doesn't, it's not propped right and it will fail, due to overloading, quickly.

Re: Pontoon shopping

Thanks for the replies guys.

I can't do a water test since the water is still hard around here. The best I can hope for is to run it on muffs and do a compression test. Running it on muffs may not even be an option. This boat is priced very well for my area so I may be willing to take a gamble if the compression is good. I know it will sell quick at the price he's asking.

Thanks again. I'll let you guys know what happens.

Also "cavitation plate" does not come into play with Toons.. Just low enough to get into clean water.. All varies depending on how the Toon sits in the water.

thanks for the replies guys.

Well, I bought it!!!

the sale is pending running the motor and doing a compression test tomorrow morning.

I knew it was going to go fast. He was asking a very fair price. When I arrived, there was already a guy there. He wanted it and was offering 7000. I offered 7500, the asking price, and the other guy wasn't interested in a bidding war so he left in a huff. I felt a little bad, but I knew it was a fair deal. Toons like this are going for 10000 with no trailer around here. This comes with a double axle scissor trailer.

Anyway, I'm excited. I'll post some pics tomorrow when I bring it home.

The kids asked, "why do we need another boat?" ridiculous question, kids...so much to learn...

Congrats. Keep in mind that when you are ready to buy a triple think used. I bought brand new and if I needed to get out of it I would have to take a huge loss. Let someone else take the depreciation.... lesson learned.... I am way upside down lol.

Thanks, I didn't want to post a link to the ad since there are a lot of Minnesotans on iboats. Maybe I'm paranoid...

rrhodes - no new boats for me, or vehicles for that matter.;)
