Hello to all,
I own a 1991 Pontoon Boat, manufactured by Lowes model# 202. I need to start thinking about replacing the sun deck that is partially rotten out on the rear of the sun deck board. What kind of wood should I use, probably Marine Grade 4' X 8', 3/4" thick ply wood. where can I purchase this wood at Lowes, Home depot?

Yeah, I just checked with Lowes and Home Depot and they cannot even order the marine grade plywood. Where can I get a sheet of 4' X 8', 3/4 inch plywood at for zip code 29322 or Campobello, South Carolina? Not sure

I would not use marine grade. Either PT with a barrier between the wood and aluminum or NPT with a sealer only on the top. and edges.

EGlideRider,
Now, that you say that in my thread your replied above. Can I just buy a regular 4' X 8', 3/4" thick regular plywood and buy a gallon of grey color Utility and floor paint for $12.15 at Lowes that is oil based and self-priming and paint the whole board and all edges with that paint with four coats of that paint to seal it up good before I put the Lowes bought marine carpet on-top and black marine seat backing mesh materiel on the bottom of it and re-install the rails back on it? Would that work and that would be a whole lot cheaper. Let me know. Thanks Bob

Four coats should do the job but I would prefer a good sealer first and then the paint. Sealing both sides and the edges is the prefered method but only if the sealing is 100% complete. If any moisture can enter the top with no exit at the bottom, rot is inevitable. If the bottom is unsealed, moisture may enter from the bottom but will quickly evaporate and/or leak out. You will still get a very long life from the plywood. And needless to say, make sure you get the exterior grade plywood.

EGlideRider,
What about this wood from Lowes, to use, to replace my sundeck with? Here is the web site link to the product in question. http://www.lowes.com/pd_12229-99999..._prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1 Thanks again, Bob, for your help and saving me some money with not having to buy the Marine Grade Plywood which is very extremely high.

That will work fine. And in case you didn't know it, Veterans can get 10% off at Lowe's. So if you aren't a veteran, you may find one to purchase it for you.

And be sure to post pictures as the project progresses.

Good luck.

EGlideRider,
I am a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and just retired effective 1 September 2010, after serving 23 years and 21 days of active duty honorably and yes I always use my military discount anytime I go anywhere to purchase anything. I am what you call a cheap skate kinda of person and will shop around until I find a really good deal on anything. I will post pictures of my project. One more question for you, when you say sealer, what brand or what type should I use, because I am not sure myself.

I happen to like Thompson Water Sealer, but I'm sure there are other equally effective sealers.

And congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your service for this great country of ours. I'm an old Viet Nam Viet

EGlideRider,
Thank you for your kind words and a GREAT!!!! Big thank you for serving in Vietnam a place were alot of men died protecting South Vietnam and our great U.S.A. Thank you. My dad served a tour in Vietnam but does not talk about it at all, so I understand alot of mental/emotional issues that people do not understand. Anyway, I will buy the Thompsons water seal and seal it first before I paint it with the utility and floor paint and then put carpet and that black seat lining material on the bottom of it.
