A small abut 1/2 acre 12 foot max depth tank on property had about 300 bass dead yesterday. Someone told me it must have "Rolled." Anyone know anything about such an occurrance. It has been really hot. Are all the fish in tank dead. Any ideas would be appreciated.

How hot is the water, could've gotten to hot and killed them,That sounds like alot of bass in a small pond were they finglerings or grown,if grown they was probaly already understress for competion then the hot water and like of oxgen was probably the cause.

Re: Pond/Tank dieout

I have called the county extension to come out. I am really sick, this was a great lake to take kids to fish. Biggest fish probably 3lbs maybe 4lb. My neighbor caught one several years ago that he weighed at 5lb. 4oz. Lots at 1 to 11/2 lbs could always catch a mess. Boys Club came out several times and I permitted them to take home 3 fish each.

If tank is dead guess will start over. It was dug and stocked in 1984. Hope it will sustain fish again.

in small enclosures you need to do the following

1 - inflow of water - basically the fish would be living in their own feces etc, without fresh water the fish will die - my dads hatchery tanks have a a water flow design that puts water in the top and water comes out the bottom to keep the water circulated.

2- provide oxeygen usually a fountain of some type

3 - keep plant life low this sucks up oxyegen

4 - keep food supply good, especially with that many fish.

You need to have few fish in a tank? that size.

Just rake out the old and toss em in the garden, then go catch some more and throw em in.

tomatolord
