Re: Polygraph Test for Fishing?

Its a good thing alot of us aren't required to take a poly after a fin adventure..especially when we like to, shall i say embellish and stretch the truth a little now and then....ever notice how a smaller fin grows in size by the time it reaches anothers ear...

The question is:

Are all fisherman liars or do only liars fish?

No fisherman in his right mind should consent to a Polygraph.

Re: Polygraph Test for Fishing?

With some of the prizes in fishing contests, I believe this is an unfortanate reality. To many people have tried to many times to cheat the honest guys out of there rightful place. These are after all fishing contests, not cheaters tournement's.

Couple of months ago a fellow here Volantarily surrendered a state record that he had held 20+ years. Said the fish was not caught under the circumstances he had led everyone to believe, he did not elaberate just asked his name be removed.

"All fisherman are liars except you and me and sometimes I'm not so sure about you"

I agree it is a shame. Up here in jersey everybody goes gaga when the shad start running and you can find a tourney almost anywhere. Well the Easton, PA tourney one year found out that the winner won by stuffing his fish with split shot. Somebody ratted him out. Now I believe I read that they X-ray the fish before declaring a winner.

WOW, The thought of someone cheating at a fishing tournament had never crossed my mind! But it doesn't surprize me. After thinking about it, it's true while using my boat bass fishing (sometimes it seems) like the boat gets angled where it looks like I have a better shot at the lilly pads than my fishing partner. Mind you it only looks like that! :) But I have noticed when using my partners boat trolling for trout along the banks of lakes that when its his pole on the bank side of the trip it always lasts about 15 minutes longer before turning around ! :p

Have you ever noticed how fish grow after they get caught? It really was
l--------------------------------l THAT Big :)

Have a good one
Link

Mobile, AL July 24, 2003-- A Bayou LaBatre angler is the Master Angler of the 71st Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo.
Joseph Kraver takes the title after another angler is disqualified after his lie tests come back as unfavorable.

Rodeo officials disqualified Joseph DeGeer of Irvingington after he had unfavorable results on his polygraph. "We're not saying in anyway there's misconduct all we're saying is the last requirement to pass and take the polygraph was not completed." said Andy Cook, President of the 71st annual tournament.

This is the Master Angler of the nation's largest saltwater fishing tournament. Joseph Kraver's polygraph had favorable results. The controversy over the title doesn't make it any less rewarding. "I'm glad it's over with. The Jaycees put on a good tournament and I felt it was like something that had to be done to deter anything like this in the future." Kraver told NBC 15's John Watkins.

The Mobile Jaycees were the first group to institute lie detector tests for a major tournament. And they feel their strict rules enforcement adds to the tournament's popularity. "They can feel comfortable that we're not going to have any exceptions to the rules and they know when they're working so hard to compete, we have a level playing ground." said Cook.

DeGeer maintains his fight were caught legally. He's refused NBC 15's request for interviews but says he will not contest the polygraph.

"largest saltwater fishing tournement"
"the disqualification will cost degreer about $3,000 in prizes"

I dont know how large this tournement is but if first place only garners 3k there are several in texas that put that amount to shame! Prizes are usally directly in proportion to # of entrants. Perhaps someone should put the Jaycees on the polygraph...This sounds like a stretch of the truth.

It's a sad commentary on society when you can't believe a fisherman's lies.

Here in Jacksonville, we just finished the 2003 Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament. The winner is required to polygraph. All prize-winning fish are x-rayed, examined by a marine biologist for freshness, and their heads (or maybe just their eyeballs) are sent to a lab for testing. People have cheated in the past, and the purses these days are too large not to be sure. Its just like any other pro sport.

I've always been uncomfortable with "competitive fishing," even on an amateur basis: I live a very competitive life in my job and personal life, and so I fish to relax. I won't even let people bet "1st, biggest, most" on my boat.
This situation just reinforces my view: when there's nothing at stake, fishing lies are possibly interesting and even entertaining...why take away that part of the fun?!

When a man will lie and cheat just for bragging rights, you know you cannot trust him when big money is involved, ha ha. :D :D
