Hate to keep posting for help, but most of these issues are outside the manuals. Expert Advise appreciated.

'73 Evinrude 6hp 6302sj

Decided I have to get this running somehow before spending more money.

I popped off the flywheel to check the points. upper at .014 lower at .012 - Should be .020
Spark was pail orange

After setting points to .020 the spark is blue/white. Sound right?

Problem is: one of the cam screws was frozen. when attempting to turn, the head sheered off below the surface and on a bad angle /. It looks like tapping out is going to damage the thread hole.

Can a flat screw be used instead to lock the points? (car style. I have the adjusting notch to set/adjust the points.

Thanks once again - always appreciated.:)

yes the cam screw is really for just adjusting the flat screw is the lock screw.

.020 and bright spark sounds good.

Thank you tashasdaddy. I will drill and fit a flat screw now. Maybe I can get it in the tank again today and see if it will run now.
