I have replaced points, condensor, and coils on this 10h.p. Sportwin. When I installed it back on the motor with the cam in place I tried to adjust the points to .020 with the flywheel off according to the manuals directions. After many attempts I was unable to get the points to open enough to .020. (Cam at highest point) When turning the adjustment screw it seemad as though it wanted to push the points closed furthur than open. Upon removal I inspected the points to the old points. It appears as though the new contacts are twice as thick on the moving arm of the points.

Are these the wrong points? Are later model tungsten points thicker?

Maybe the older ones are just that worn down? I shouldnt have to file these right out of the box!

Can anybody help? I am stuck on this one and cannot figure out this simple problem!!!

Thanks

Mike
