Hi all,
A sailing newbie here. I'm a power boater and was given an 1973 Ensenada 20 from a friend who was using it until a couple years ago. My son and I will modestly restore this boat. A couple questions for starter.

a. I can not find a drain plug for this boat. Is it common for sail boats not to have a plug? So am I correct to assume that I will net to put in a bilge pump?

b. This boat have a retractible keel. Is it common for water to enter from this point?

Please educate me! More questions will come later.

Aaaaaahhh I had same question

Aaaaaahhh I had same question

Mr nightvision.

I also,,,,,, drove from Northern Ohio to Southern Tenn to buy a 222 O'day found on e'Bay. Being a power boater too it never dawned on me that boats were built without a sea cocks, yet no bilge pump either. Apparently I missed seeing them when I looked over the boat because it was two weeks after my boat was home that I also discovered the same.. Hummmm Well I decided to not get to excited about it ansd see just how she sails.. Started to ask questions on the various sailboat forums and found a couple people had put in bilge pumps but never used them. One guy put in a manual pump and never has needed it.

You will be glad to know that I just finished my second sailing season. and have never had to even wipe out the bilge with a dry towel. I have had the 222 O'Day's toe rail under water many times but nary a drop of water gets in the bilge. The cockpit is self draining as I imagine yours is too. I am really enjoying my sailboat and have been spending good quality time on the water in my retirement. Just installed a tiller pilot and that's the cats meow.

Welcome aboard the world of sailing. Power boating was good while working as it took 5 min to get the boat ready to turn the key, and the same to put it away. Not to mention last season I used 4 gallons of gas with the sailboat and may use 6 gallons this season.. I worry now with the new gas will it spoil in the tank? Hee he.!

Just tried to add a pix of GETAWAY for you to see, but havn't figured it out yet,, Maybe we can"t
