Please help..which thermostat?

While plundering around my project I have discovered that the GM 5.0 does not have a thermostat. 25 ft. cuddy with Alpha I..Can anybody tell me what temp thermo I need. Think this engine is about an '84.

Oh Yeah.....raw water cooling system.

Ideally, you would find the serial number of the engine so the year and model can be confirmed. Then, someone here, or any Mercruiser dealer could tell you. The serial number is often on a tag on the block just in front of the starter. The factory manuals are also available in the "Adults Only" section at the top of the main page where you posted.

Okay............after hanging upside down in the bilge while holding a flashlight with one hand and pushing some hoses out of the way with the other hand, I came up with this serial number: 6812223 Will this get me the thermostat info?

Here's what I come up with if you have a Model 898, 228 or 230, 5.0L Merc, 1984, Alpha drive.

ErieRon...thanks. There is a cover over the top of the 2BBl carb with the 898 label on it also something about thunderbolt ignition....anyway, thanks agian. I will order the parts right here.
