Please help w year of 85hp Evinrude

I am wondering if someone could help me idenify the year of my 85hp Evinrude. I found some numbers on the side of the cylinders: "310532" then "2D" under that set of numbers. It is electric shift. Hood says Electric ignition and 85 on front, and Starflite on back. It is a V-4. Color is white. Also, does anyone know where to look for a book or a web site on idenifying outboard parts/motors? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Trent. I am certain that this motor is in like the early 70's, (being electric shift and all), that site just lists later models. The link sells books, but I am not sure my motor is worth spending 20 bucks for the manual tho. Maybe someone out there has a book or knowledge of this motor?

I spoke too soon, I browsed a little more and found more info, I think I pulled the wrong number, I have to find one starting with 85. Thanks again Trent.

A '68 85hp has a 2bbl. downdraft carb in the front of the motor. For '69 thru '72(last electric-hydraulic shifter) it has 2 2bbl. horizontal carbs, one above the other, and an air silencer box on the front. Is there a model number tag on the stern brackets anywhere? Is there a black lever on the front of the air silencer block for adjusting the carbs richer or leaner. If thats missing, you might only see a splined brass shaft sticking out.

Thank you for the reply SeaHorse. Yes, I just pulled the model number from the bracket...85193A. I looked it up on that site. Found the year, it is a 1971. You were right on target. Man, you guys are good.<br /><br />
