I have a 1996 mercury 150 2 stroke oil injected carb outboard. So i know for sure my enricher/choke valve is bad as my motor is really hard to start cold and I have to tilt motor back to start. I also took multi meter to it and have power when pushing in key but no click. Once warmed up it starts perfect when hot. Last few times I took it out without replacing the enricher thinking that its ok for now but ive been having another issue. Last time out, boat had no power and would not get on plane. Started fine and idles ok but no power at wot. So i pulled the plugs and they looked fouled so I cleaned them off with sandpaper and boat got right up on plane. Unfortunately after sitting on anchor for awhile and going back to launch ramp same problem. No power at wot.

So im thinking time for plugs again but is the enricher valve causing my plugs to foul out or should I be looking somewhere else like oil injection or? Any advive as where to start?

Thanks

Your enricher valve may be stuck open. Oil injections isnt going to cause your plugs to foul.

Check the fuel pump as well. If the diaghram has a hole, raw fuel will leak into the crankcase.

Heat keeps plugs from fouling.--Thermostats installed and working properly ?----Compression tested ?

OK, little update. I checked the t stats and they were bad so I replaced both as well as a new impeller and fresh plugs and choke solenoid. It now starts right up cold start, but still wont get on plane. No power at wot. So next I checked and cleaned carbs and all were fine and was just starting some ignition tests when I spotted a problem under the flywheel on the stator. A couple of the copper windings are black and one is completely fried and loose. So im assuming the stator is probably bad and that could be my problem. Im going to pull the flywheel tomorrow and get a better look.

What really sucks is when I checked online pricing for my stator they range from 300-480. That sucks. Was wondering if its a bad idea to get a used one as money is little tight. I found one on ebay that looks clean in good condition but is untested and they no nothing about it but its almost free. Is there anyway to know what to look for besides the obvious or am I better off just waiting and buying new?
