Hi everyone, I have been on here for a bit but havent added anything yet. First ill start by saying, I will introduce myself soon, I just want to get this message out there.
At the end of last summer I purchased a boat for my 5 year old son and myself. I knew it needed some work but I figured it would be a great project for us. I got the boat from a guy who was willing to trade for my dirtbike and as a 70% service connected disabled vet, I jumped on it. I figure the trailor alone was worth it.

My problem has a few parts, so here goes:

On the title it says: 4 GALSD 022M8 89 Z 1989 MAG Cabin

So I do know it is 20' and its a 1989 cuddy cabin. It has an outboard that has been replaced in 2003 with an engine im not sure of. It wants to turn over but doesnt. Im not worried about that so much as I can find that stuff out.

What I am looking for is a positive id on this boat so I can start the project. My son is very excited as am I. I know a lot of the parts are standard but it would still be nice to know what Im working with.

Also, I am in NE Pennsylvania and like I said, I am a disabled vet so money isnt exactly flowing in if you know what I mean, so if you know of any salvage yards or cheap boat part places around the area, that would be great also.

Thanks in Advance for any help and I look forward to making new friends on this forum..

Brian

Re: Please help me to ID my Boat....

Welcome aboard Brian & Thanks for your service and sacrifice:

GAL is the MIC code for a Galaxy boat. I can't see the graphic on the starboard side of the boat from the picture, do you know what that says?

Also, post a couple of photos of the engine/motor. You called it an outboard, but I'm bettin' you have a Inboard Outdrive on a boat that size.

Knowing what manufacturer of the boat won't help you a lot at this point, but knowing the engine/outdrive manufacturer is pretty important.

From what little I can see in your pics I believe you have an Inboard/outboard... An outboard hangs on the rear of the boat but an I/O has the engine inside with an outboard leg sticking out the back. THe problem with boats is they always cost you money, if on a tight budget a fiberglass I/O is probably not the way to go. However you already have it so you will need to do some homework, look online and in your local yellow pages and see if there are any marine salvage yards about. They are out there, but not in big numbers and are they in your area is the question. If not familiar with boats I would try to find someone who is and have them go thru things and help point out what it needs. Try a private individual not a mechanic to start with as the mechanic will see dollar signs and start going "ka-ching". A private individual will be more forgiving and give you enough information to let you know if you want to continue with this project. After you have a general understanding of what the boat needs then you will have to decide whether to invest the money and labor or not. Welcome aboard and good luck.
