Hey guys I am new to the I/O boats and am looking for help. My boat has a 165HP mercruiser and I cannot find the model of my outdrive. Here is a picture of it and I have the serial number but the lists are not helping me identify it im guessing its around a 1977 setup. The second thing is on the engine as I am hooking it all up and there is some kind of nipple on the engine block i thought i took a picture of if but i just have the general area of it.

Re: Please help me identify these items.

the model of the drive is 165, more commonly known as an MC-1, very common and parts are still readily available

the nipple you have circled is for the valve cover breather hose to attach to the flame arrestor, this helps crankcase fumes/vapors be directed into the carb to be burned up and exited through the exhaust

the engine is a 165 hp in-line 6 cyl, gm long block 250 cid - a great older engine, you have a nice setup there, appears to be in pretty decent shape judging from the photos

Thank you very much dubs that was exactly what I was looking for. Here is a similar pic i found online that i believe shows the nipple i was talking about. So this should connect to the carb somewhere correct? Where would I find the size or hose I need to connect it back up?

that nipple is for the vacuum gauge that some of them era boats had... it's a vacuum port..

ya might wanna go here. it'll give you all the facts ya need to know assuming ya got a '77. s/n will tell....

Yes, I looked it up and it is a 1977 engine. I am not sure if there is a gauge on the cluster or not. Is this something that needs to be hooked up? I have the seloc manual but cannot find any info about it.

BTW nice boat :D

Re: Please help me identify these items.

this is what my gauge on the dash looks like. the one to the right of the fuel gauge, the one that says vacuum on it that's reading about 7hg in the pic. yours could vary i suppose as mines a 1975...

if ya don't have the gauge, there's nothing to hook up. put a plug in the manifold and be done with it.
did your try where i said.
ya might wanna go here.
click on 'here'.... that's the real s/m... mercruiser #2 s/m which covers through '77. confirm proper s/m by s/n. i have a seloc too. it resides in the boat as something is better than nothing.... the real s/m is where it's at though. the facts from the horses mouth so to speak...
thanks for the compliment... :)

I have the seloc manual but cannot find any info about it.

The Seloc manual is only slightly better than toilet tissue.
Download and use the Mercruiser manual.
