Any ideas on this would be a HUGE help - I am in the process of trying to remove the powerhead from my 7.5 HP Mercury outboard longshaft motor - probably built between 1979-1985 - in order to replace the powerhead to adapater plate gasket. I think it is also an exhaust gasket, due to the fact that it is leaking exhaust. I have disconnected all the wires, carb choke, fuel lines and the tiller cable wires. I have also removed the bottom six bolts that hold the powerhead on to the top of the lower unit. Yet it seems that the powerhead will not lift off. Have I missed disconnecting anything else that would prevent the powerhead from lifting off? Any kind of shift linkages, fly wheel, etc.? Some people posting here say there are eight bolts? I don't see 8, just 6. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
