This is a 1992 sea ray ski boat. I noticed this mount on the lower right-back side was broken and I have no clue what it is for. The part that is supposed to be connected to the mount has a wire going into it with a paddle (or impeller) thing inside also. My guess was something to do with the speedometer. My girlfriend put the zip tie on so it wasn’t bouncing around on the way home from the lake. Any help is appreciated.

Looks like a paddle wheel speedometer. The mount would hold 1/2 of the wheel under the hull.

You could use a phone app to get a GPS speed (much more accurate), or rig up a bracket to fix it, or both.

In theory, a ski boat will want to hold a steady speed for a slalom skier. Of course, there could be a difference between water speed and ground speed. That would be current.

Its an aftermarket speedometer pickup wheel and is not associated with the boat. Find the manufacturer of the dash unit to get a replacement.

That type of unit is extremely accurate and will give you true water speed. GPS is fine but it does not consider wind or current speed, thus it's not suitable for trolling fishing.

Here is a photo of the speedometer on the dash. No names of a manufacturer-but there is a symbol but can’t figure out what brand.

That is the SeaRay logo. SeaRay has manufacturers put it's logo on their products.

The good news is that the Speedo is made by a major manufacturer like Tiempo or Faria. It should not be too hard to match it up.

Now you tell me..lol

Must be a freshwater thing. Everyone I know fishes GPS speed.

Perhaps it’s because we typically troll static lures. There is no right or wrong speed, only catching or not catching speed.

Trolled Spanish (Mack’s) yesterday with #1 planers and bird rigs with drone spoons. Trolling at 7 to 7.5 knots was the ticket.

Much under 7 kts. and the bluefish get in the spread and raise havoc. Lots of guys complaining about getting “cut off” (loosing rigs) at the leader swivel by Bluefish.

Piranha have nothing on a Bluefish.

We troll mainly for freshwater muskys, using jointed or double jointed wooden "pikie minnows". To get the correct lure action that catches the most fish requires 1.9 mph with respect to the water. That's MY reuirement and its based on my specific modified lures, pole length and action, etc.

We usually troll downstream. My kicker is set for 1,9 mph paddle wheel. The river current where we troll varies from 1.5 to about 2.2 mph. So, while my dash unit always says 1.9, the GPS will vary between 3.4 and 4.1.

Yes, its probably a freshwater thing.

I am not finding a match (yet). Is there anyway you guys can post a link to a site that has something that looks close? I see mainly “finger” style and not many paddles. And I haven’t seen any speedometers for the dash with the sea ray logo. Can I get any one as long as it’s the same “size” and fits in the dash? Can I switch out the paddle with the finger style?

Your not going to find an aftermarket Sea Ray gauge since they didn’t make the unit to begin with.

Nothing special about the unit. The problem your running into is that paddle wheel speed has long since been replace by GPS.

The primary market for paddle wheel these days is fishing. Most are designed to be plug and play via a digital interface with fish finders and chartplotters.

Your best bet to replace the functionality of the unit is total replacement with a GPS based unit.

Dont know what size gauge you need but here are a few to look at
