Get a buddy over and have him hold the spark plugs while you crank it. :D If you have spark, he will tell you. After he calms down, you can then take the Carb off, take it apart, and clean all the varnish out with a carberator cleaner and compressed air. If your careful you may not need a carb rebuild kit.

LOL...well put Red Rider. mistajace, if you do get into the carb and tear it down, I would suggest a rebuild kit to put it back together with especially if the existing gaskets are black. The newer gaskets in OEM kits are made of Vitron a gasket material that resists drying out from the formulated fuels. They are a brownish red in color.

OBJim :D

Do the complete overview.Compression, ignition output, fuel quality and delivery. There are a few circumstances that you need to isolate before you start throwing parts at things.

Mistajace
Check for spark on both plugs, gap plugs to .035. I not sure if you have a power pack the 79 may still be Points and condenser and a driver coil under flywheel and a coil for each plug. If you have no spark check stop switch, you can unplug it. If no spark on either plug I would supect the driver coil under the flywheel or stop switch. If you get spark on both cylinders I would then check timing or pull flywheel and make sure keyway is good.

If spark looks ok take the fuel line off pull the plugs and crank a little to clear cylinders. If plugs look ok then squirt some 2 cycle mix in cylinders put plugs and wires back and try to start. If it starts then need to put fuel line back on and find out if getting no fuel or too much. Then repair carb or fuel pump. If it did not start time to do a compression check.
