I HAVE A
1988 60 HP Mariner 2 CYL WITH A Hydrofoil
IT NEEDS A STARTER
BUT BEFOR
I SPEND
THE MONEY ON A NEW STARTER

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW
IF ANY ONE
CAN TELL ME
IF THESE ARE GOOD MOTORS

I AM NEW TO BOATS & BOATS MOTORS

I BOUGHT A PONTOON
THAT HAD THIS MOTOR ON IT
&
IT NEEDED A STARTER

IT STARTS WITH A ROPE
&
SEEMS TO RUN VERY GOOD

BUT
I WAS TOLD THAT
THIS MOTOR WAS MADE IN JAPAN
IS THAT BAD ???

I HAVE A 19 ft crestliner
it has a
1978 85 HP JOHSON 4 CYL ON IT
I WANT TO JUST USE
THE crestliner FOR FISHING
SO I
WANT TO PUT THE SMALLER MOTOR ON IT

TO HELP SAVE ON FUEL

THE 85 HP JOHSON PUSHES MY BOAT ABOUT 30 MPH
I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS
GOOD or BAD

I DID PUT NEW PLUGS IN IT

BUT I THOUGHT THAT THE
60 HP Mariner 2 CYL
LOOKED ABOUT
1/2 THE SIZE & WEIGHT
OF MY
1978 85 HP JOHSON 4 CYL
&
SO IT MITE GET BETTER FUEL MILAGE
&
RUN JUST AS GOOD
OR
BETTER

CAN SOME PLEASE HELP ME
CHOOSE WITCH MOTOR WOULD BE THE BEST

THANKS
GEORGE

Re: PLEASE HELP 1988 60 HP Mariner

The 60hp is a well built motor, dont take this as gospil, but i think Mariner was coupled with Yamaha
in "88". As far as the 60hp performing as well as the v-4 omc,Sorry pal it,s just not going to happen, unless the V-4 is wore out. The starter can be re-built reletivley easy though. good luck!
