Plastic prop stopping small outboard?

We have a 2 hp Mariner outboard that runs like a top out of the water. But as soon as it goes in to the lake (Lake Ontario) it stalls out on a little 13" aluminum boat. Is it possible that the rather dull chewed up plastic 3 blade prop just can't cut through the rougher water there and a metal prop 'might' solve the issue?

On 2 hp, I'd say that if the blades were deforming under load, you ought to be able to grasp the blade with your hand and get it to deflect confirming the fact. If they do, go alum. Pushing a 13' boat is obviously a task for that size engine and bending the blades is certainly possible. Also it depends on the material (of course) but the prop that originally was rigid, may have softened after living the life it has lived.... since you said it was dull and chewed up, allowing the blades to deflect/deform under load.

Thanks Admiral. That was the only thought I had. I'll get a new prope and give it a try.
Also, I have a story to post later when I get pics where I backed my boat down a very shallow ramp with the motor down!!! 3 people never noticed and we poked 2 big holes through the transom at water level. Stay tuned for this one. No need to say IDIOT!

Its possible the motor is running a little lean.Under those conditions it would seem normal out of the water but stumble and stall in the water.See if a little choke helps.

Stalls out as in, won't push the boat very well or sputters and quits? Describe how the outboard is running, what it's doing and what it's not doing.
