'cause it has a big M in front of the part number. They figure you got enough moolah to play, you must have enough moolah to pay. Merc probably could have made the joint from standard components but....

i am surprised a Gen II needs u-joints !

But if you do,you do.

Use aftermarket or anyones parts as you may,but be sure they are an exact replacement. And good quality.

A new bell housing is about $500,and a gimbal housing 2 times that.If they go under pressure, the boat will sink real fast.

I took one of my u-joints in to the local O'Reilly Auto Parts store and they crossed it over. It came in a Rockwell box, marked "made in USA" , fit perfectly and was $16. I'm sure the quality of it is every bit as good as the one that says Mercruiser.

Hey, Mac - for joints as new as yours to go, either the bellows is leaking & they got wet, or the drive was run above trim limit at too hi RPM for too long. Gimbal bearing is probably shot as well in either case. Be sure to fix the root cause & just don't throw parts at it. That'll save ya some $ by not having to do it over:D
