Pivot bolt removal

Question: What could happen if you take out the Pivot bolt by mistake when changing the gear oil? This would be on a 1992 90hp Force O/B.

If the pin went back in with no problem And forward /reverse seem ok youy fine.I pulled it out and shoved,jeked,pryed,trying to get to impeller and didn't #$$$ any thing up. FIXIN
