Pitted Engine Block.....Please Help

I have an opportunity to purchase a used boat. It is a 1994 fishing boat with a 1994 Ocean Series 200hp engine. The engine has low hours, but the block has pits in it that have been sealed with marine tex. The question I have is "should this be a deal killer, or is this a normal condition for saltwater boats, and can be dealth with by replacing the head gaskets every year"?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

As long as the gaskets can still seal it's OK. It's not unusual for closed deck blocks to have some pits in the deck that don't correspond to sealing areas on the heads. If there is no water in the cylinders it's most likely OK. It's really tough to make a judgement without seeing it. Personally, I would say if it makes you uncomfortable -- walk away from it.

Good luck!
