Pitted Chrome

I am at a sort of a crossroads now. All the chrome pieces on my boat are pitted. What do I do? Re-chrome or buy new or, I don't know.

I like the original pieces but this is not a 32 Ford. If it's cheaper to get new stainless pieces maybe I'll go that route. I like the original horn. I touched the wire ends to the battery and it does work. Sounds like a cow with a belly ache though.

If I re-chrome, can I save a few bucks in prepping myself? How do you prep?

How did you guys handle this area?????

Re: Pitted Chrome

I worked at a plating facility. most places wont touch water craft objects. most of the metal in whats called pot metal and as soon as they put it in to strip all the chrome off the chemical eats it up. one way is to see if you can clean it up yourself with small sanding wheel and sandpaper. then tack it to them to rechrome it.. they will smooth and then nickel then crome it..

good luck om getting it cromed..

try this place you may have to send it to them. not sure the price but they do exalent work best i've ever seen..
