Hi, I just purchased a 1999 16' Campion Allante 485BR. (Hasn't even been on the water yet!!, old stock) It's sweet!
I just purchased a 1998 Johnson (also NEW) still in box 90HP motor!
What pitch on the prop do I need?! I'm buying an aluminum one.
I'd like more input from others if this question gets answered.
Thanks in advance everyone!

paul,

check with local or boat manual...pitch matched to boat size for particular motor

once you determine what pitch, I would buy a stainless prop.

Pitch would be in the area of 21". What is set up to be used for? Average loaded weight?

I called a dealer, they said to go with a 17" Prop.. he said a 19" wouldn't pick up a skier fast enough..

I dunno, what do you guys think!? I just don't want to ruin my new motor! :)

Please write back, thanks in advance!

Okay so you want to ski with it.
Still waiting for weight but I would think that a 17 would be great hole shot with lower max mph. If you have t&t, I would go with a 19 for a compromise. 21 would be for max. mph.
Got to start somewhere, need a base max rpm. Hopefully you have a tach and preferably gps for speed or someone to clock you.
Ultimately, motor if hung and propped correctly should turn 5800-6000 at wot.

I'm with MG - 17" for skiing etc and 19" for general purpose. You really can't be sure until you can gauge your top RPM - then prop your engine so that you achieve near the top end of the rev range at WOT.

Mike
