I am going to overhaul my 1980s 80hp merc over the winter.I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to replace ALL of the pistons, rings, and bearings, while I have the motor all apart. I know that sometimes this can be bad because the motor has broken-in a certin way. should I just replace the bad parts or all parts? The reason i ask is because i once rebuilt a 1970s chrysler with the exception of the bearings and after the first season the lower cranck bearing let go and sent #2 piston through the head(ouch) but I also have replaced bearings on a few jetskis and had motor noise afterwards...........

Yes, to the bearings and rings, if the bores and pistions are within specs. don't worry about them
