I am bringing an Xr6 back to life. I have identified the larger pistons and head gaskets that I need but I have not been able to identify the correct wrist pin bearings. This is according to the official Mercury parts list we all identified the .

Mercury identifies 29-822553 as the correct bearing in both applications, stock and Xr6. This cannot be true. Although the needle bearings are the same diameter, the length of the 822553 is significantly more than the needle I have. The 822553 won't even fit into the crankcase.

Any ideas on how to identify the REAL Xr6 bearing?

Thanks and,
Cheers!

look for your build date stamped on tha block half in tha area at base of number two.... might be on tha flange... will be 1/8" numbers, mo/day/yr. may be hard ta see but they are there.. tha first XR6's had "bottom guided rods and pistons, larger wrist pin bearings... same as used in all V6's from day one in 1976... i think from '92 (would have to look it up) all tha "little" (2.5 and smaller) V6's went to top guided rods and pistons with smaller wrist pin bearings...spacer washers are also different...bottom guided washers are stepped... top guided washers are flat... there are only two size wrist pin bearings for all tha "little" V6's... tha bigger early bottom guided stuff and then tha smaller top guide stuff.... don't forget tha top and bottom guided pistons are also different which take tha different wrist pin, bearings and washers... so check your piston... i'll do some checkin' with tha mercnet later tonight but really need tha build date to be completely sure........

whats tha number on your rod?

636-8118?
644-818141?

google your part numbers... all kinds a places will come up.. used Pro Marine most of tha time but was a dealer at tha time so cost was down!... most of their merc bearings are oem bagged, just in "their box".sometimes.. wsm, vertex, proV pistons, in that order, are excellent........ jmo
