pin-hole in housing

I seem to have a tiny pin-hole on the left side of the housing of my lower unit as you face it, and there is a little lower unit oil coming out of it very slowly. It almost looks like it was put there for a reason. I don't know much about boats or boat motors, but I don't think this is a good thing. If anyone knows how or why the hole got there I would appreciate your info. If it is in deed not supposed to be there it looks like it would be easy enough to repair, I was thinking just put a little J-B Weld over the little hole. Thanks to all of you for the help and all the help in the past.

Re: pin-hole in housing

That's a drain down for the void ahead of the shift shaft I believe your taking about so don't plug it or the water will stay in the void a pop the housing. If you have been running on a hose at idle sometimes oil thats slobbered out of the exhaust will puddle there and drain out. Smell it to see if it'd gear lube.
