Not being very computer savvy, (I know I worked in Electronics for my career but not in PC type computers) I have a question for those that are. When posting pictures in any thread from photobucket, if you delete the picture from photobucket that have been posted, do they get removed as well in these threads or are they there forever? The reason I ask is because I read a ton of these thread near nightly (with the TV on in the background) and have come across some that had pictures posted but are not available anymore. And if that is what happens to them, then that make a ton of old threads that will become useless... ?

If you are linking your pictures from any online hosting service, then remove your images from that online hosting service, they will disappear and not be available in the thread any longer. Hence you will get either a box with an X in it, or you will get a box with the error message that says the picture has been removed.

Thanks for the reply and I totally understand what you are saying. But since I copy and then do a paste in the threads and the picture appears instead of a URL link, is that picture indeed copied for that thread, or is it still just a URL link from photobucket? If it is still a URL link then I understand that. If though it copies the picture and pastes it in the thread then I guess it would remain...right?

Yes, it would have to be uploaded to the Iboats server, to remain in the thread, if it resides on any other server it will disappear if removed from that hosting service.. I normally host my own images, but if I remember correctly, you can upload images to Iboats, you have the choice when you post a message, to either pull the image from a URL, or pull the picture from your computer, if you choose your computer, it will be uploaded to Iboats when you post the message and will be hosted on their server.

MTboatguy, again thanks for your reply and info. I do appreciate it. My problem is when I do try to get any picture from my computer, it does nothing, zero, nada, zilch. So I go to photobucket and upload my pictures there and copy them to my thread. It is a little more effort, but the pictures seem bigger and easier to copy. I must have some option tuned off because I use to be able to retrieve my pictures straight from my computer, but not anymore. However, thanks again for the computer info, I guess I need to study up on PC's and different options...

GM.

When I know I am going to upload a picture, I will put it on my desktop, then I know exactly where it is when I go to upload, one thing is, I believe Iboats downsizes pictures or flat refuses them if they are to large, so when you edit your picture make sure to make them as small as possible, within reason, I know of a couple of forums I run, I will not allow big images to be uploaded and I encourage people to use their own hosting service to get the best quality possible, it is amazing how much space images can take up on a server if you don't control it in some way. Some of use that do these types of forums have to pay for bandwidth and images take a lot of bandwidth when they are displaying on every body else's computer.
