Went and picked up my Princecraft 162 BT today. Finally got to see one other than the brochure. I am very impressed!! The fit and finish is excellant - at least as good as the Lund. Also, has the H36 aluminum vs. H34 for Lund.

I liked the Lund Rebel V and Alumacraft Lunker, but I think the Princecraft is the best in this class of smaller fishing boats.

Feel free to comment or ask questions,
Mike

Re: Picked up my Princecraft

I envy you cause I still gotta sell my old boat before i go and buy MY new Princecraft. It's true, they are much better in person after looking at them in a magazine for months... I'm curious as to how much HP you put behind your boat. I'm looking at getting the Starfish DLX BT (Cause the best fishermen don't want a console) and the dealer want to sell me a 40hp while I can only afford a 25! I was wondering if you went through any of this and what your choice finally was since your boat is relatively the same weight.
Mine would be 480 pounds. Answer here or see my post "What is the appropriate Hp for a given weight? "

Enjoy your new boat

Re: Picked up my Princecraft

Congrats on acquiring your new PrinceCraft

If you like it now you'll like it even more in a year or two once it's broken in. It's the kind of boat that grows on you.

As you probably already know there's nothing cheap or shoddy about a Princecraft, its quality through and through. I've yet to meet any Princecraft owner tell me they are not satisfied with their boat in terms of performance and standard equipment.

I've put mine through the paces on many occasions on our lake and she handles like a dream in most conditions.

Main difference with the Lunds is the Princrafts plane slightly higher out of the water(less drag), therefore better top end speed.

Have Fun

Re: Picked up my Princecraft

PCET,

I have 25 horse power limit on the lake I frequent so I went with a 30 honda (I will modify the horsepower sticker since they are the same size motor etc.) I think that should be good - I will have 75% of the motor allowed for the boat (40).

I previously had an alumacraft lunker that was about 650 pounds and rated to 45 horse. Lunker is now rated to 50 horse.

My 162 BT is 579 pounds. I bet your starfish would fly with a 25.

Have fun!!
Mike

Re: Picked up my Princecraft

hey, PCET did you buy your motor yet, If not, then I strongly suggest do not go with anything less than 35 hp if you want top end performance from the 16 ft BLT.
I had a Starfish plain jane, and tried both a 25 and a 35, The 25 was okay, but the boat was meant for the 35. Your BLT is much heavier than mine, and I think you might be unhappy with 25.
My .02
