My outdrive has this white chalky build up on it that is difficult to remove. I've tried soap and water, windex, and various other cleaners with no real luck. Some of it can be rubbed off with a cloth, and some can't. Anyone else seen this before and know what works best to remove it and prevent it from coming back? Thanks

It's caused by the minerals in the water, and the heat in the outdrive.

Mercruiser drives is more common (Black drive makes the white show up better), there is a company that makes drive showers to cool the drive which prevents the build up. Problem is, they don't make them for that drive.

Go to http://www.driveshowers.com/ there is even a section on the "White chalky substance"

that's what i think it is too. i get it all the time... two words, lime away (yes, toilet bowl cleaner). scrub it a little and wash off with boat soap and water and it'll (the white chalky stuff)be gone... or add a drive shower.
or in my particular case. i had a brg. that was looking shady that i discovered over the winter. i wonder if it wasn't getting hotter than it should have because it was had pitting and rust on the rollers. i've replaced my suspect brg. and will be interested to see if i get less white chalky stuff on my drive with it's replacement. due to the brg. rolling smoother and not causing as much heat..
