Pretty funny, but not true. That one has been floating around for a couple years

The Spoof : Three Reported Missing After Animal Rights Activists Take "War on Leather" to Motorcycle Gang Rally. funny satire story
I remember one year long ago a guy was deer hunting and a group of PETA folks actaully came in to his hunting stand. Rather then get too upset and laying them out (I call that great gun control too) he decided to get down and take a walk through the woods. They proceeded to follow him and make a lot of noise to scare off any type game. So he decided to give them a little lesson as well. He walked through some very swampy areas and viney areas and made sure to go through every throny area he could think of. He walked up hills and down. He had apporpriate clothes on but they didn't. I'm sure they had many cuts, bruises and painful bodies and such after his walk... Some times you have to play their game and some times they had to play yours.
Wonder if it will be funny when they are in front of a judge?
I was thinking more like assault, kidnapping, unlawful detention.... Of course once the criminal charges are finished it's time for a civil case and the real payoff. I'd bet a dollar they can easily identify the assailants.

You may be right but I will be amazed if it doesn't end up in front of one or more judges.
And the charges would be what?
I'm trying to think of a synonym, for "hoax" or "urban legend" or "not true....someone just made this up and posted it on the internet" that might register....but they've pretty much all been used already in this thread.
According to my Doubleday Roget's Thesaurus: trick, dupe, swindle, fool, hoodwink, take in, flim-flam, sham, feint. Subterfuge, prank, put-on, spoof, trick, imposture etc.And the charges would be what?
