I have a 86 Sea swirl with omc 4.3 stringer setup. I bought a pertronix kit and a flame thrower coil. I mistakenly ordered a 1.5 ohm coil instead of the 3.0 ohm coil. I am going to run 12 volts to the coil and then put a ballast resistor inbetween the coil + and the newer esa module. I have a intermitten spit and sputter and die problem and the tach jumps down to almost idle and back up to speed. Also the engine won't go over 3300 rpm and it is smooth until it acts up. The throttle plates are wide open and if you move the throttle lever back just a small amount it slows down so it doesn't seem to be starving for gas. I suspect the esa module or resistor wire or coil the problem. I have several lake trips and cant find where my problem is so i am just replacing it all. I just don't know what a 1.5 ohm coil on 12 volts would hurt? The original coil was some aftermarket 1.5 ohm coil with points. Is this going to be a issue without points?
