Devlish little devices they are. I regapped the plugs, checked the ignition wire for ballast (none), checked the coil for the proper amperage (3) bolted down the module plate and Voila! It fired right up.

It started much easier than than before, even with an effectively new set of points.

Sometimes, today, I have a real resistance to new gadgets. Past experience with Pertronix has shown that this was one area not to be hesitant.

Now if I can just remember to never leave the key on. Pertronix does not have the II version for this application.

Boomyal...did you open the plug gap up? How much?
I have installed the Pertronix ignition system in both of my older classic Chevy's (66'/'72) and they work great and fast (...never liked those points ignitions). However, I have not really regapped the plugs from the original gap which I believe was about .035" although I did read/hear that you can open them up by another .005" or so, but does that really make a difference?

I've been fighting the ignition on a 1952 International Blue Diamond engine for 30 years. This looks like the answer.

Try it j_martin, you'll udoubtedly like it. I just followed Pertronix instructions on determining the presence (none) of a ballast resistor/wire and to determine if the coil was suitable, slapped the module in and wired it up.

It started up real easy. I saved all the point paraphenalia in a big pill bottle. I'll tiewrap it somewhere on the lift.

If you can find the right one for your app (you can always call Pertronix) chances are that they will not have the Pertronix II version for it. You want to make sure that any Yahoos that drive the lift DO NOT leave the key on. I used to do that all the time on my FL. Of course when I came back the battery would be stone cold dead. Now of course, you will kill the Pertronix. I ended up putting a RED Dymo tape lable above the key slot. I cut it in a arrow tip with the words OFF. Fortunately I am the only one who drives it these days and I have become very concientious.
