I am going to be doing my water pump tomorrow. I bought the complete kit for $100 from the dealer but I cannot find any 3M 847 adhesive.
The closest thing I could find was Permatex weatherstrip adhesive. Which is waterproof, fuel proof and resistant to solvents.
Am I risking disaster? I also have other gasket making sealants both hardening and non hardening. I have used the Permatex to glue on everything from water pump gaskets to oil pan gaskets.
If not, what other cement can I find out in the boonies?

For whatever it is worth--maybe nothing--recalling way back in "the day", I was at an Evinrude service seminar, and the factory service manager was teaching a class. He kept referring to Sealer 1000 as "rubber cement". When somebody questioned him on it he said, yeah he means Sealer 1000, but it is the same stuff. Of course now we use 847 as a replacement for obsolete Sealer 1000. Just something to think about.

I have aviation form a gasket. If i can use that to install the stainless cup and plate that would end my searching for adhesive.

1984 90hp. I used the Aviation form a gasket between the cup and body. The factory instructions say to use the brush on gasket maker around the lip of the stainless cup.

If you want to fix the large housing seal so that it doesn't tear out when pressing the housing down on the impeller, try a little blue RTV in the groove. Wipe away the excess and let it set up and apply a little grease to the surface of the seal. As for the gasket under the plate. Lightly coat both sides with OMC thread seal. Use thread seal on the bolts all the way up the shank to prevent corrosion and it also acts as a mild thread locker. I do this all the time with no issues. No fancy adhesive needed. Never needed any adhesive or sealant between the cup and the plastic housing.

Yes I thought that using gasket maker on the cup was excessive. These instructions call for the impeller to be inserted into the cup, then the cup is lowered down onto the shaft.
There are probably 10 ways to do this and the factory has probably revised these instructions 10 times since.

Easier to fit the impeller onto the shaft and key. Smear a little grease on the plate under the impeller and put a little on the inside surfaces of the cup. Use a small vice grip on the shaft to turn it clockwise as you press the cup over the impeller. Real easy..

I think these newer instructions are made to prevent someone from installing the impeller backwards as the fins bend when its inserted.

If you follow my method the blades will all be in the correct direction, Just press the housing down and rotate the shaft in one easy motion.
