Great site you have here, Glad I found it.
I am looking to buy a older model SC for fishing on Quabbin Res. in Massachussetts. Rules are 20 hp 2-stroke or 25 hp 4 stroke.
Currently alot of guys there are running older SC's on it that are getting 20 mph (GPS) with either of the above engines, although most 2 strokes are kicked up to 30 hp. Some are SS, Jupiters and a few Superfisherman.
I've been searching for these models and want the best possible perfomance as it's quite a large body of water and getting 20 mph out of it is important.
My current boat is a 2002 SmokerCraft Stealth 172, hull wieght is 1250 pounds and a 2002 Merc 25 hp 4- stroke bigfoot (which just popped) moves it along at a snails pace of 12.5 mph with normal gear and 2 occupants.
I guess my biggest question is do you feel 20 mph is reasonably attainable with that power on a 1978, 16 foot SS ?
Can you get more out of it than 20 MPH ?
Thanks
