Hello Everyone,

But mostly Don I guess. I am new to the forums and new to boating all together. I have recently purchased a boat with a Volvo AQ131a motor. I am looking to do a tune-up and am in need of some help. I am having trouble locating the parts I need from local marine stores and even marinas. It might just be that I am completely green and people in New Jersey can also be complete *****. So off to the internets for help.

I am looking for the following parts.
Plugs, Wires, Dist. Cap, Rotor, Points, Condenser, Oil Filter, Timing belt, Serpentine Belt, and possibly an alternator.

Any help is good help. If there is anything else I should look out for please let me know.

Thanks,

Matt

I might be able to help, but I'm in NJ !
Why not edit the original post and I'll tell you about inexpensive auto plug wires and belts...

It wont let me save the edited post. Perhaps there's an issue with my browser or the fact that I am using a mac. I will gladly go on record and say that I was wrong about people in NJ and that Dennis is an outstanding human-being with a gentle and kind heart!

Re: Penta AQ131a - looking for parts/ part numbers

I have a AQ131C as near as I can tell.
My oil filter is Purolator L14670
Ignition points, Intermotor GB4173P

Rotor; I bought a 3823 which seems to be discontinued now, Standard Motor Products GB344T should be the same.

Spark plug wire Federal FPC 4429:p, search at Rockauto.com for 4429.

The ignition capacitor/condenser and distributer cap are a little more trouble.

I bought a http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1491042 capacitor, BUT had to rebend the bracket and cut the square plastic wire protector down to fit in the Marine version of this distributer. For what it's worth, I think these capacitors last much longer than most people think. If your points stay in good shape for a season, the capacitor is most likely still good.

The cap, I had to make an adapter to fit a clip style versus screw down style.
E-bay is like gambling, I bought a dist. cap but it came without the center carbon contact.

My alternator was changed out, so the v-belt will be different.

Hope this gets you started.
