Hey!

I really want to peel the pin striping off my 2000 Stingray! I hate pin striping! :) So will this affect the gelcoat of the boat if I removed it?

thanks!

Sarabi

Yo Sarabi,
You're not gonna hurt the gelcoat a-tall. It (the gelcoat) may be a different color, due to fading, under the tape but thats all.
Gotoit.

c/6

Hooty

Depends.....Don't use any mechanical tools  There is allot of information on removing the glue residue you will encounter on this forum.
Hooty stated it may be slightly brighter than the rest of the hull which will lead you to polishing it up to match.

Bob

Based on other forum members suggestions I went to an automotive finish store (Sherwin-Williams) and bought a gummy disk that mounts onto a drill.

It cost 10 bucks and takes off pinstriping with ease. No residue. although the disk does wear fairly quickly, I can see going through 2 disk trying to remove a 3" strip on a 21' boat.

Good Luck
Bobby Powell

I hate the pinstripe too!

I'm debating about removing it myself.

Unfortunately, the stripes I want off goes across one that I want to keep!

Now what?

H.

A heat gun or hair dryer works great for removing vinyl decals. I have completely removed every darn decal from my 1991 Rinker Fiesta Vee 260.

Amazing how nicer and newer the boat looks. Also how much easier it is to wax and polish the boat without all the decals.

On a newer boat, once warmed up (dont overheat!!)should peel righ off with little residue remaining. If there is any glue left over, you can use "goo gone" or "goof off" available at Kmart or Walmart to remove the remaining residue. Since my decals were older and baked on, I had quite a bit of residue left over, the goof off worked quite well.

On a 2000 model I would be surprised if there is any difference in gelcoat color especially if your season is limited and the boat is stored or wrapped (like ours in Illinois).
