Pee Stream Question

Hello! I am new to the forum and also new to boating as well. I have a 1971 Winner Marauder with a 115 HP Mercury Thunderbolt engine. I have a couple of questions:

1. When I put the motor into a water trough that I have to do tune ups and such, I don't notice any water coming through the hose that creates the pee stream. Shoudl there always be water coming out of that hose or does it inly happen at higher rpms?

2. Should this boat have 2 batteries. 1 for the negine and the other for depth finder, lights, etc.? The reason i ask is that the 4th time we had the boat out, the battery died on us and we had to towed in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Pee Stream Question

The telltale should operate whenever the motor is running. They clog easily, however.

It sounds like you need to check the charging system. Run the motor at idle on the flush device. Put a voltmeter on the battery, and note the reading. Increase the motor speed a bit and see the voltage rise. If it doesn't rise, it is lilkely your rectifier is bad, and the motor is not charging.

Re: Pee Stream Question

i am to understand that the stream should start peeing out water after the motor heats up and the stats open. i am having a problem with my cooling system as well. i have a 1991 150hp Merc. on a procraft 180 (bass boat) it has 3 batteries. one for just the motor and the other two for the trolling motor lights radio and fish finder. only the motor battery will recharge from running.

Re: Pee Stream Question

Only a few Merc inline motors have a thermostat. If your motor is from the 70s or 80s it doesn't have a thermostat.
