Can't seem to locate the pee hole on my 1983 Merc 4hp 2 cyl. The motor isn't pumping water, even though the impeller is fine, and everything is connected up as it should be.

Where should I be looking for the water exiting?

If it is anything like my '77 4 hp 2 cyl., there should be 2 columns ( 4 holes per column) of small holes on the top end of the lower unit, not too far below where it meets the lower cowl. They should be facing rear. So, in other words, if you are facing the prop you should be able to see the holes. They are above the water line.

I'm sure JAG59 meant to mention, you get a mist out of those holes as the cooling water is propelled by exhaust gasses, so it is unlike a modern tell-tale.

When you start the engine, you'll notice a distinct change in the exhaust note once the block fills with water. That's your tell-tale. :D

Thanks guys, that's what I thought as I couldn't find any exit points nor hoses.

Great to get it confirmed......
