LOL @ "pee hole".

Sure does look like the water is flowing from the "Tell Tale". It's always best, however, to take a real temperature reading on the heads because there can still be cooling issues even with water through the tell tale. Better to be safe than sorry. Harbor Freight, if you have one near you, sells a Digital Infrared Thermometer that's just "point and click" for around $30.00. Sometimes there's a mist of water coming from the exhaust that you can't see that well.

With one of those not only can you confirm the motor is operating at the right temps, but you can verify the t-stats are functioning as well by taking a reading as soon as you start it, watching it climb and then hopefully (if t-stats open right) watching it fall as well.

I am in the uk so I dont have one near by but I ran it for 20 mins in a drum and could hold my hand on the head for around 10 seconds before it got uncomfortable

I've heard of "wax" sticks that were available from most marine dealers... They come with different temperature ratings and would melt on the power-head if the recommended running temp was exceeded.

If you could hold your hand on the head for 10 seconds after a 20 minute run, it isn't overheating.

Your motor is a 1983 6hp. I have a 1987 8hp that is essentially the same motor, I don't recall whether or not water spray comes out of the exhaust. If things go as planned, I will be taking the boat out tomorrow and Ill see what it does.

i have a 1981 6hp, and it does spit water from the upper port, but not much.

just been out it run great and a little water comeing from the exhaust area but pumping loads of water and ran great
