I am replacing the solenoid on my 1992 Moomba Boomerang. I have four posts on the solenoid and there are four wires. I know where the big gauge wire go that connect to the battery and starter. However, i can't figure out what wire go on the other two small posts. The solenoid has one post marked with an "S" and the other with an "I". There is one yellow and red wire coming from what i believe to be the neutral safety switch on the trans. What little post does that wire go on? and what wire am i missing that should go the other post?

Depends on where the solenoid came from. The automotive verson that uses the "S" and "I", the I goes to the + side of the coil to boost the voltage on start up. On the marine version, the "S" and "I" is still on the housing but the second small terminal goes to ground. They are wire differently inside but the outside housing is the same.

Re: PCM Ford 351 with electrical problem

Thank you, I have a marine solenoid and wired it with the yellow and red wire going to the "S" post. The engine still wouldn't start. So i jumped the solenoid and still nothing. So next I replaced the starter. The engine started right up twice. However, on the third try the starter didn't stop running, even when the key was out of the ignition. I had to flip my master power switch to stop power getting to the solenoid and starter in order to kill the engine. When I turned the master switch again the engine turned over. This is the sign of a faulty solenoid right?? This is how i have the solenoid wired right now. Yellow and red going to the "S" post, starter connected to the port side post and the positive power cable going to the starboard side post also I have a red wire that connects to a button that starts the engine without having to turn the key. This button is located on the aft side of the engine.

Can you post a picture of your starter and your slave solenoid?

OK, R/B wire goes to one small terminal. Black ground goes to the other small terminal. Red from starter goes to one big post and red from battery goes to other big post. If starter wants to continue to turn after key is released, remove Y/B wire and turn battery back on. If starter still wants to spin, its the solenoid. If not, check the Y/B wire for power
